Plageoles is a 6th generation family-run estate. Current proprietor Florent's grandfather Robert wanted to bring back traditional grapes of the region which had been lost, he studied the region's viticultural history and worked with a local nursery to find a number of forgotten vines to replant.
Wine making has always been on the low intervention side, while vineyards were converted to organic by Florent's father, Bernard. This was a response to difficulties with their spontaneous fermentations due to the weakening of the natural ambient yeast from pesticides and other chemicals. Removing these products from their farming enabled them to preserve the natural fermentation process. While there are no additives to the wines, at bottling all wines see a limited amount of sulphur - but it is as low as 1g/L and ensures clean and consistent wines that will always showcase their terroir and authentic character.
