Hofstätter farms 50ha on both sides of the Adige River, with very distinct terroir - in fact, current custodian, Martin Foradori's grandfather was the first in the region to establish the practice of isolating the best vineyards into separate lots. Ancestor, Ludwig Barth von Barthenau, a chemistry professor at the University of Vienna, who was among the first vineyard owners to plant Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) in the Alto Adige in the mid-19th century.
The vineyard sites, located in the foothills of the majestic Dolomite mountains, have been carefully selected over the years. Each varietal is grown on the high-elevation slopes where it is best suited. The range is divided into three distinct tiers: classic, village, and single-vineyard. The single-vineyard range is designated ‘Vigna’ differentiating them from the village wines that are sourced from multiple vineyard sites. The wines are pure, classic expressions of traditional varieties and incredibly food-friendly. Hofstätter is the only family wine estate that owns vineyards on both the west and the east banks of the Adige River.
