Domaine Rougeot - Passe-Tout-Grains 'La Piquette' (Sans Sulfite Ajouté), Côte de Beaune, Bourgogne, France (2022)

A blend of all the "leftovers" with a barrel of Pinot Noir from Pommard and some Aligoté from Monts Luisants. No added sulphite. Mainly Pinot Noir and Gamay, but the blend also includes some Aligote for freshness. The wine matures for 7-9 months in old oak barrels of 600 liters. The wine is not clarified or filtered. Not a traditional Piquette - It is a French play on words in the style of “sold under the table”.

Pierre-Henri, having taken over from his father Marc, operates the 13 ha family estate producing wines of Meursault, Monthélie, St Romain, Pommard and Volnay. He has been quietly producing impeccable minimal intervention, low- sulfur wines since he returned to the family domaine in 2010, farming the vineyards organically. Pierre-Henri’s no sulfur vinification effortlessly balances a natural wine approach with traditional Burgundian technique, creating wines with energy and balance. Each terroir from Aligoté and Passetoutgrain through Premier Crus is bottled as a single-vineyard designate. The wines are energetic, precise, and delicious!

The 2022 vintage proves that Burgundy has a strong and bright future, even in the face of unprecedented extremes of weather. On paper, this was the driest, warmest and sunniest year on record. A consistently excellent vintage with wines of wonderful typicity, purity and freshness. Of the recent climate-change vintages that have now become the norm, 2022 is the most successful yet.
