Birgit Braunstein - Grüner Veltliner, Austria (2022)

TASTING NOTES

Textbook Grüner aromas and flavours, with just a touch more roundness on the palate owing to its more southerly-than-the-norm Burgenland origins. White pepper, lots of tangy orchard fruit and some salinity, almonds and grip.

35 year old vines grown on schist and shell limestone soils in the Scheibel vineyard. Spontaneously fermented with 1 day skin contact, then aged 6 months on fine lees in stainless steel. Under 30ppm sulphites at bottling.

Birgit Braunstein is a passionate vintner. She creates great wines of outstanding ripeness, structure and mineral expression. Her impressive know-how and dedication brought her the title “Vintner of the Year 2005 (Gourmedia 2004/2005)”.

Her sons, the next generation of Braunstein - twin Brothers Max and Felix - now work together.
