Valdonica - Arnaio Toscana Rosso, IGT, Italy (2019)

TASTING NOTES

Red fruits and some black cherries with a touch of leather and savouriness - light, sandy tannins and a long finish. A really elegant and refreshing Sangiovese. Old school, classic style of Tuscan Sangiovese. Could take a little chill.

30% whole clusters, fermented in stainless steel tanks. Wild yeast fermentation and 2 to 3 weeks maceration. Aged for 10 months in old barriques.

At 500m, Valdonica's vineyards are amongst the highest in Maremma along with their proximity to the sea providing an almost maritime climate. This reduces the risk of  disease and allows a long growing season, perfect for ripening Sangiovese and autochtonous grapes such as Ciliegiolo.

The soils are ancient volcanic from the Sassoforte volcano, active up to 20 million years ago.
