From 80-year-old vines. Handpicked, pressed and spontaneously fermented in a steel tank where the wine matures for 6 months on lees. The wallpaper without filtering.
While Maria Barrena predominantly makes wine in neighbouring Navarra, she also makes high-quality Cava and white wine from her father-in-law's vineyards in San Sadurni d'Anoia - just outside Barcelona.
The vineyards have old vines, and combined with organic farming and low yields, the result is tight, beautiful and focused wines.
From the single plot, La baixada de les Bruixes, planted in 1932 on calcareous soil. Located facing west at 450 m above sea level. The breeze from the coast 3 km away helps to cool the vineyard and blow away any rot risks.
Sant Sadurní d'Anoia is considered the capital of Cava and Xarel-lo, and is located in the higher part of the Penedes in Catalonia. The soil and topography vary enormously and therefore result in different styles.
